Six terrorists killed in J&K

Election 2002 Six terrorists, including a self-styled supreme commander of the Harkat-ul-Jihad-e-Islami, were killed since Thursday evening in Jammu and Kashmir.

HUJI commander Azad Hussain Zargar alias Bilal Sidique was killed in an encounter with the Border Security Force at Phrambu village in Gadool area of Anantnag district early Friday, a BSF spokesman said.

Zargar was a resident of Kishtwar area of Doda district. A Kalashnikov rifle, a wireless set and some ammunition were recovered from him.

Describing his killing as a major breakthrough, the spokesman said Zargar took over as the supreme commander of the HUJI two months ago after the killing of Rafiq Lone alias Abu Harera in Lal Bazaar area of Srinagar.

He was trained in Pakistan and was involved in a large number of cases, including killings of civilians and securitymen, during the past 10 years, the spokesman said.

In another encounter, security forces killed three terrorists at Dhomgali in Budhal sector of Rajouri district on Thursday night.

Two terrorists were killed in separate gun battles at Niki-Dhoke in Poonch district and Garihar-Nawabad in Machil sector of Kupwara district on Thursday, a police spokesman said.

He said terrorists shot dead a former associate, Mohammed Akbar Lone, in his house at Sirpora-Kreeri in Baramulla district on Thursday night.

Terrorists exploded a bomb and fired at the house of National Conference leader Ghulam Nabi Mir in Pampore area of Pulwama on Thursday night, he said.

Police guards posted in his house fired in retaliation, foiling the designs of the terrorists, he said.
