Five militants and a Central Reserve Police Force constable were among 12 people killed in Jammu and Kashmir, where ultras engaged security personnel at three places and abducted two persons on Friday night, official sources said in Srinagar on Saturday.
In an exchange of fire at Sonar Kali in Budgam, two unidentified militants and a CRPF constable, Girdhari Lal, were killed and another security personnel was injured.
In the second incident, two Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islamia militants, identified as Ghulam Ahmed Wani and Mohammed Amin Dar, were killed in a gunfight with security personnel at Batkote in Kupwara district.
In the third incident, an unidentified ultra died in an encounter at Tangdhar, official sources said.
In other unrelated incidents in the valley, militants killed panchayat (village council) member Noor Mohammad in his house at Chak village in Doda district.
A couple was killed in an exchange of fire between militants and security personnel in Mohra Bachai area of Surankote in Poonch district, the sources said.
Militants abducted and killed Ghulam Rasool Parrey at Batgora village in Doda. The bodies of two persons were found at Baderwah in the same district and in the Chingral forests in Rajouri district.
The sources also said militants abducted two persons from their houses in Harsinghpura village in Rajouri district. Efforts are being made to trace them.
