Forex brokers to contribute to quake relief

Foreign exchange brokers in India have agreed to contribute one day's brokerage income towards relief work in the earthquake-stricken Gujarat, the Forex Association of India said on Monday.

Brokers are willing to contribute the brokerage they earn on Monday towards the relief work, the Association said.

Losses from the devastating earthquake, which hit Gujarat on January 26 and killed an estimated 30,000 people, have been estimated at Rs 208.75 billion by the Gujarat government.

The state chief minister said 228,900 houses had collapsed and nearly 400,000 damaged by the quake.
