BSNL announces tariff for its mobile service

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited on Saturday launched its much-awaited cellular services and announced aggressive tariffs with free incoming calls and outgoing call costing Rs 2 per minute, at a monthly rental of Rs 325.

The service was launched in Lucknow by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee by making the inaugural call to Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani in New Delhi.

The corporation has announced two post paid plans, one with monthly rental of Rs 325 offering free incoming calls from existing BSNL facility, and outgoing calls at Rs 2 per minute (within BSNL network) and Rs 2.40 per minute (other than BSNL network), during the peak hours.

This plan would not attact any caller line identification charge and would have free roaming.

In another plan, the monthly rental has been fixed at Rs 225, incoming call at Rs 1.20 a minute and outgoing at Rs 2.40 per minute. In both cases, the pulse of the call has been fixed at 15 seconds.

Announcing the tariff plans, BSNL chairman and managing director Prithipal Singh said the security deposit for the connections ranging from Rs 1000 to Rs 3000 for availing local, STD and ISD facilities respectively would be exempted in case of existing BSNL customers.

Under the post paid category, there are four options of card values of Rs 300, Rs 500, Rs 1000 and Rs 2000 with calling value of Rs 185.71, Rs 376.19, Rs 852.3 and Rs 1904.76 respectively, he said.

Singh said the cards would remain valid for a period of 30, 30, 60 and 90 days respectively.
