The Union Government is willing to provide any resource necessary to the states for creating awareness among the people about the World Trade Organisation regime and its implications, Economic Council (ministry of commerce) Advisor R Srinivasan said today.

Addressing a seminar on ''Trade and Exports under the WTO Regime'' organised by the Industrial Economist magazine in Chennai, he said the regime was going to affect everybody in one way or the other in the next five to ten years.

''It is disheartening to note that the states like Bihar have not taken any initiative to disseminate knowledge about the implications the WTO regime will have on the domestic players, especially in the agriculture sector,'' he said.

However, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka had shown interest in this regard, he added.

The commerce ministry had written to the states saying it was willing to depute experts and provide resources for the purpose of dissemination of knowledge on the post-WTO scenario, he added.
