India has offered to host the next ministerial meeting of the Group of 20 developing countries (G-20), formed ahead of the Cancun Ministerial to oppose the anti-third world stance of the European Union and the United States in the contentious farm negotiations at the World Trade Organisation-talks.

The offer was made by Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath during a bilateral meeting with Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim in Sao Paulo during the weekend, an official press release said on Monday.

During the meeting, both Nath and Amorim stressed the need for consolidation of the group on agriculture issue, which was important not only for G-20 but for all WTO member countries.

Apart from India and Brazil, which is the coordinator of the G-20, other important members include China, South Africa, Argentina, Egypt, Malaysia and Indonesia.
