West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Tuesday rejected Trinamool Congress' demand for return of 400 acres of land to 'unwilling' sellers of land at Singur.

This complicates the Singur imapsse further.

On Monday, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee had rejected the chief minister's offer of talks and stuck to her demand for returning 400 acres of land to 'unwilling' sellers of land.

In a climbdown from his stand on the Singur issue, Bhattacharjee on Monday had invited the Trinamool Congress leader for direct talks with him on the Singur issue.

"I am ready to discuss anything with her. All issues raised by her party can be discusssed," Bhattacharjee told newsmen after writing a fresh letter to Banerjee.

In his letter, Bhattacharjee said, "As a responsible Opposition leader you must appreciate that the quick implementation of the project is very important for the state.

"We are facing a critical situation when many other states have offered the Tatas to shift their small car plant from Singur," he said.

Asking the Trinamool Congress to join hands with the government to implement the Tata project, Bhattacharjee had said he was optimistic of a solution.
