State JD chief protests over 'unfair list'

The Janata Dal faced yet another crisis when its Bihar unit president Ramai Ram protested against ''unfair and biased selection'' of party nominees from the state by the JD Parliamentary Board.

The list is yet to be formally released. However, getting wind of the nominees cleared by the party, Ramai Ram called an emergency meeting of the JD state unit office-bearers on Wednesday to decide future strategy.

He said he had clearly told JD president Sharad Yadav and JDPB chairman Ram Vilas Paswan about his reservation regarding one of the candidates included in the Bihar list.

Ramai Ram said he had registered his protest at the JDPB meeting which concluded in New Delhi on Monday night, saying the list did not 'reflect social justice in real terms'. The list is lopsided as it overlooks caste and religious equations, he added.

He was cut up with the JD central leadership's inclination for a possible alliance with the newly floated Bihar Jan Congress headed by former chief minister Jagannath Mishra.

Decrying the proposal, Ramai Ram said he had asked the JD leadership to dissociate with former chief minister Laloo Prasad Yadav for his being involved in the Rs 9.5 billion fodder scam. But now they are hobnobbing with Mishra who is also involved in the same scam, he added.
