CBI will not be used for political vendetta: Vajpayee
The government will not utilise the Central
Bureau of Investigation for political purposes, Prime Minister
Atal Bihari Vajpayee assured the Lok Sabha Thursday.
Responding to Opposition leader Sharad Pawar's request that
the government should look into the
allegation of certain members that the official
agency was being misused, Vajpayee said it
was his government's declared policy not to use the
CBI for
any purpose than investigations. He would definitely inquire into the
allegation
and take action if anybody was found guilty.
He has been asked by the President to seek a vote of confidence
before March 29. Besides, the House must pass the interim railway and
Union budgets before the motion of confidence was
taken up. The
members should, therefore, co-operate with the chair in conducting
the business of the House, Vajpayee said.
