Pak forces on alert: Aziz

E-Mail this report to a friend

Pakistani Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz today said the country's forces were on alert after the downing of 'an unarmed Pakistani surveillance plane' by India.

''Obviously we have put our forces on alert in case there is anything from that (Indian) side,'' Aziz said.

''One has to be in an advanced state of readiness,'' Aziz said. He gave no further details.

He said Pakistan had defused the recent crisis with India over the Kargil heights by agreeing to a disengagement of forces. He expressed regret that relations with its arch-foe remained 'brittle'.

''Let's hope India will express due regret and its apologies,'' the minister said.

Aziz called on the international community to put pressure on New Delhi to enter 'real, meaningful, results-oriented dialogue' with Pakistan over Kashmir.
