3 held for 'human bomb' plot against NayanarThe Kerala police have arrested three members of an Islamic fundamentalist organisation which had sent 'human bombs' to assassinate Chief Minister E K Nayanar and other prominent political leaders to exert pressure on the government for securing the release of Abdul Nasser Madani. Mahdani is now lodged in a Tamil Nadu prison in connection with the Coimbatore serial bomb blasts case. The arrested -- N E Ismail (22) of Aluva, Sabir Ali (20) and Masoor (20) of Kannur, belonged to an Islamic fundamentalist organisation, Majlis, the police said. On interrogation, the arrested youth confessed to having been part of a conspiracy to assassinate Nayanar. The accused were yesterday produced before the Kannur first class magistrate who remanded them to 15 days' custody. A search is on for six others, who were directly involved in the conspiracy, the police said. The police said the extremists planned to blow up bridges and bus stands, besides setting ablaze buses to create panic in the state. The police said the arrested youth had undergone training at a rented house at Pannenpara. The house was rented a few months ago on the pretext of running a firm for marketing electronic goods. The accused came to Kannur as part of a conspiracy hatched in Ernakulam south railway station in April. They were brought to Kannur by one Amir Ali, a former bodyguard of Mahdani. The police said the youths' links with the fundamentalist organisation came to light during the interrogation of Sabir Ali. He was taken into custody when he tried to exchange two counterfeit notes of Rs 100 denomination. His arrest led to the nabbing of the other two members. UNI
