What is the fuel injection part?To a layman an aircraft engine looks like a fan from the front, which is part of the low pressure compressor. An engine is composed of a compressor, combustion chamber and turbine. Air enters through the fan and is compressed, which is then sent into the combustion chamber, where the air is mixed with fuel and ignited. The resultant gas goes through the turbine and is expelled through the rear of the engine. Jet injection is that part which will mix the fuel with the air in the combustion chamber. To repair it, the engineer has to be certified to service an Airbus. You can't just use any engineer, and even the tools this engineer will carry will be very specific to the plane. A Boeing will require different tools and an Airbus has different tools for the same task. There won't be any spares available in Afghanistan, but it will be easily available in Pakistan or the Emirates. In India the spare parts are available only in Bombay. "It would take around 30-45 minutes to repair the engine. But after the part has been replaced, they are supposed to do an engine run up. I hope they do that too and don't do that when the plane is taking off," said an ex-senior examiner with Indian Airlines and Gulf Air who is currently flying with an airline in the Far East.
