Rajagopal takes over as Laxman quits

E-Mail this report to a friend

Minister of State for Railways Bangaru Laxman resigned from his post following his appointment as Bharatiya Janata Party president.

Disclosing this at his first news conference in New Delhi, Laxman said he has conveyed his decision to resign from the Council of Ministers to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee over the telephone on Thursday morning, with a request that it be accepted ''at the earliest''.

The BJP has a one-man, one-post policy.

Laxman's resignation has been accepted and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs O Rajagopal will also look after the railway portfolio, a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said.
