7 securitymen found guilty in Barakpora firing incident

The Jammu and Kashmir cabinet has decided to approach Justice Pandian to also inquire into the Patheribal and Chattisinghpora incidents.

Addressing a press conference after the acceptance by the cabinet of Justice Pandian's report, Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah said a First Information Report has been registered against the concerned security officials.

The report has nailed Ashok Kumar (assistant sub inspector), Krishan Kumar (head constable) and Chaman Lal (constable) - all from the Special Operations Group of J&K police - and R P Rai (commandant), P C Hanji, Shyam Kumar and S B Lohikar from the Central Reserve Police Force.

Dr Abdullah said Justice Pandian has recommended that the family members of those killed be given Rs 200,000 as compensation.

The next of the kin of those killed in the firing have already been given Rs 100,000 and the remaining amount will be provided soon, he said.
