The Supreme Court dismissed on Monday the anticipatory bail application moved by Bombay's former police commissioner Ramdeo Tyagi.
A division bench comprising Justice G B Pattnaik and Justice Ruma Pal said Tyagi's application could not be entertained and summarily dismissed it.
Tyagi, who retired as director of the elite National Security Guards, had moved the court against the Bombay high court's refusal to grant him bail in connection with his indictment by the Srikrishna Commission inquiring into the infamous 1992-93 riots in the city.
The commission had held Tyagi responsible for the deaths of some persons in a bakery in south Bombay during the riots.
The men were shot dead on the pretext of being terrorists. At that time, Tyagi was joint commissioner of police, crime, and led the police party that raided the bakery.
With the dismissal of his application, the former police officer's arrest is now on the cards.
