The Lok Sabha was adjourned amid all-round din on Wednesday, with the Bharatiya Janata Party demanding action against a portal for using prostitutes to trap army officers into a fake military deal.
Moments after question hour, a handful of BJP Members of Parliament rushed towards Speaker G M C Balayogi, waving copies of a newspaper that reported how reporters from portal tehelka.com claiming to be arms merchants supplied sex workers to the officers.
"Hang them!" screamed BJP MPs, referring to the Tehelka portal chief Tarun Tejpal, and the journalists who carried out the sting operation.
Even as the speaker pleaded with the BJP MPs to return to their seats, members from the main opposition Congress party joined them but for a different cause. They shouted slogans against reservation of jobs in the government.
To add to the crowd Trinamul Congress MPs also jumped into the act, shouting slogans against alleged growing lawlessness in West Bengal.
In all, nearly a dozen MPs of the opposition and ruling parties gathered around the speaker's chair. The protests degenerated into unintelligible din that lasted for nearly 15 minutes before an exasperated speaker adjourned the house.
Both Houses of the Parliament, in particular the Lok Sabha, have been repeatedly adjourned in the past fortnight over a variety of issues.
