Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav has said the country did not require the controversial Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance to deal with terrorism.
Addressing a public meeting in Farrukhabad, Yadav said that the jawans fighting for the country required arms and ammunition and not POTO.
Observing that laws meant for the security of the country had always been 'misused' in the past, Mulayam said, "History says that such laws were used to settle political scores against leaders like Jai Prakash Narain, Ram Manohar Lohia, Chaudhary Charan Singh and Janeshwar Mishra."
Yadav alleged that the law and order situation had turned for the worse in Uttar Pradesh and the criminals were having a free run.
