Air India will lift relief materials free: PTI

Air India will lift relief material from various parts of the world on a priority basis, and gratis, for the Gujarat quake victims.

"The relief material would be accorded priority keeping in view the urgency of its requirement for the victims," an AI spokesman told PTI.

He said AI managers posted throughout its global network spread over the United States of America, Europe, Gulf region and south-east Asia have been directed to ensure that the relief materials reached Gujarat in time.

On another front, the Central Reserve Police Force has so far deployed seven companies, including six from the Rapid Action Force, in the worst earthquake-hit areas of Gujarat to assist the civil administration in relief and rescue operations.

Three RAF companies have been placed at Ahmedabad, two in Bhuj and one in Anjhar, and a CRPF company has been summoned from the group centre at Gandhinagar to assist the civil administration in the operations, a CRPF spokesman said today.

Besides sending a medical team to Ahmedabad, the group centre hospital at Gandhinagar has also been kept open for admitting injured persons, the spokesman said.
