Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday expressed apprehension that the extension of Naga ceasefire to other north eastern states was creating tension in Assam and sought immediate remedial steps by the Centre on the issue.
"I hope Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee would give due consideration to the after-effects in Assam and other states since the tension in areas like Karbi Anglong was growing due to it," he said after a meeting with Vajpayee along with Meghalaya Chief Minister E K Mawlong.
He said that Mawlong was also apprehensive that the effect of the ceasefire could spill over to his state.
To a question whether Vajpayee gave any assurance to the two Chief Ministers on the issue, Gogoi said, "He (Vajpayee) gave us a patient hearing and assured us that the Centre would take all the necessary steps in this regard."
