An angry mob protesting the Naga ceasefire extension set afire the house of Bharatiya Janata Party legislator and former Manipur power minister Govindas Konthoujam on Monday, officials sources said.
The sources added that another mob on Sunday night also damaged the private residence of the BJP legislature wing leader and former chief minister R K Dorendra Singh at Yaiskul area.
At least 200 people gathered at Kwakeithel area on Imphal airport road on Monday morning and set afire the house of Konthoujam.
Official reports said unidentified tablets and pills, allegedly used by drug addicts, were recovered and later removed by people from Govindas house before setting it afire.
Family sources said that Govindas' brother was an agent of a drug company. It was not exactly known who had kept these pills inside the house of the former minister, sources said.
Meanwhile, normal life was affected in Manipur due to the 24-hour general strike observed to protest the Centre-National Socialist Council of Nagaland (IM) ceasefire extension to Naga inhabited areas of the state.
