Vishwa Hindu Parishad International General Secretary Pravin Togadia was arrested at Bhusawal station in Jalgaon on Wednesday morning, Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Kripashankar Singh said.
Describing Togadia's arrest as a preventive one, Singh said the VHP leader has been asked to return to New Delhi in view of the volatile situation in Malegaon area in Nasik following riots in the region.
Director General of Police Subhash Malhotra said, "We have restrained him from going to Jalgaon and requested him to go back."
Malhotra said an official order had been issued banning the Bajrang Dal rally to be in the area on Wednesday.
