Amarnath: Fewer pilgrims undertake
yatra after attack

The recent militant attack on Amarnath pilgrims has led to a fall in the number of people undertaking the yatra, with only 2,316 leaving for the cave shrine on Thursday against the usual 3000 to 4000.

Thursday's batch left the base camp in Jammu in a convoy of 115 vehicles, official sources said.

Two persons were killed and five injured on Tuesday when unidentified militants hurled a grenade at a taxi carrying pilgrims at Lazbal near the south Kashmir town of Anantnag.

Meanwhile, arrangements in connection with the Buddha Amarnathji Yatra in border district of Poonch were finalised at a joint meeting of the Border Security Force, the army and representatives of the Budha Amarnath Trust.
