Non-bailable warrant against
Tarun Tejpal, 3 others

A Bangalore court on Thursday issued a non-bailable warrant against Tehelka managing editor Tarun Tejpal and three others in a defamation suit filed against them by Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Samata Party leader V Sreenivasa Prasad.

The Bangalore court has ordered the execution of the warrant against the four accused through the Delhi police commissioner on or before August 31.

However, its execution has already been stayed by an apex court verdict.

Apart from Tejpal, journalists Anirudh Bahal and Mathew Samuel, and executive producer Minti Kunwar Tejpal are named as the accused in the suit filed by Prasad after Tehelka's expose on alleged corruption in defence deals.

The apex court had on Wednesday stayed all proceedings before the lower court on a petition filed by Tejpal seeking transfer of the case to a Delhi court.

A three-judge bench, comprising Chief Justice B N Kirpal, Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice Arijit Pasayat, said, "There will be stay of the proceedings in PCR No 131 of 2001 in the case of V Sreenivasa Prasad vs Tarun J Tejpal pending in the court of the VIII additional chief metropolitan magistrate, Bangalore."
