Pakistani firing across LoC kills one civilian

Pakistani troops resorted to shelling and firing from across the Line of Control and international border in Jammu division, resulting in the death of a civilian since Tuesday, official sources said in Srinagar on Wednesday.

Talib Hussain was killed when a shell fired from across the LoC hit Kalsian village in Poonch district on Tuesday, sources said, adding Pakistani troops also fired five to six mortar bombs in Sangral area of R S Pura sector of Jammu district on Tuesday night.

No damage or casualty was reported on the Indian side.

Intermittent firing between two sides was also reported along the international border at several places in Jammu district during the period, the sources said.

Meanwhile, two jawans and a Special Police Officer were killed and another jawan injured in two separate incidents in Kathua and Doda districts of Jammu division, where police also arrested a former SPO who had joined the militants, since Tuesday, a police spokesman said.

The spokesman said two army soldiers, Lance Naik Nand Lal and Sepoy Chaman Singh, lost their lives, while Sepoy Om Singh was injured in an explosion at Kahuda in Hiranagar tehsil of Kathua district on Tuesday.

However, it was not known how the explosion took place, he said, adding the injured jawan was rushed to the hospital.

In Doda district, Special Task Force personnel arrested Special Police Officer Abdul Latif Paddar along with a self-loading rifle and two magazines from a forest in Kuntwara.

The SPO, who was deployed as a personal security officer with National Conference leader Ghulam Mohammad Malik at Kishtwar, had deserted along with his service weapons on July six and joined the militant ranks.
