Arun Jaitley to represent Centre
in J&K autonomy talks

BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley will hold talks with the Jammu and Kashmir government and political parties there on the issue of devolution of greater powers to the state, Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani announced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

Advani had earlier ruled out trifurcation of the state as demanded by the Sangh Parivar.

"There is no question of trifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir and justice will be done to all areas of the state. Even during the time of the erstwhile Jan Sangh party, we had never supported this view," Advani said in his reply to the debate on the Jammu massacre.

Advani said it was not the first time that this matter had been heard of and at one time there was even a proposal to incorporate Jammu in Himachal Pradesh.

This proposal was also not supported by the Jan Sangh, he said.
