Foreign military attaches
visit Kashmir valley

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Military attaches from 22 countries on Tuesday arrived in Srinagar in a special plane for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

They visited the Badami Bagh army cantonment housing the headquarters of the 15 Corps where they were briefed about the latest situation by General Officer Commanding Lt Gen V J Patankar.

On Wednesday, they are expected to meet Governor G C Saxena and Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah.

They are also expected to visit the forward areas in north Kashmir to get a feel of the situation on the Line of Control (LoC) where Indian and Pakistani troops are engaged in a standoff.

Among them are representatives from USA, UK, Russia, Japan, and Indonesia.

Meanwhile, 15 persons, including five policemen and a girl, were injured in a grenade attack in Rajouri town. The target of the militants was a State Bank of India van carrying cash, sources said.
