Puri Shankaracharya for fitting
reply to Pakistan

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

The Shankaracharya of Puri, Swami Nischalanand Saraswati, said in Patna on Tuesday that it was high time India gave a fitting reply to Pakistan.

He said it was unfortunate that the ruling elite of the country had failed to take action despite the fact that Pakistan had launched a proxy war against India.

The Shankaracharya said that the country's sovereignty and national interest were supreme and that war could be resorted to in order to safeguard them.

"This is the opinion of the people in general to teach a hard lesson to Pakistan," he said.

The Shankaracharya was in Bihar on a 15-day visit.

He said in ancient days the religious leaders had successfully unified the vast populace of the country through the shastras. But today things were different, as the politicians were divided on national issues, he added.
