Training camps of militant groups shut: Report

An agency report quoting several Islamic militant leaders said on Friday that terrorist training camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir have been shut down by President Pervez Musharraf, one of the key demands of India to de-escalate along the Line of Control.

A senior Lashkar-e-Tayiba commander, quoted in the report, said the process of winding up the camps started immediately after Musharraf's speech on January 12 promising to crack down on terrorism.

Musharraf had announced the banning of LeT during the speech.

The report also quoted several Harkat-ul-Mujahideen and Jaish-e-Mohammed commanders, two other militant outfit operating in Kashmir, as saying that their training camps were also shut down.

The report, however, said that the claims could not be independently confirmed.
