Lifting ban on overflights 'substantial gesture': India

India on Tuesday said Pakistan should realise that its decision to lift the ban on overflights by Pakistani aircraft was a 'substantial gesture' reflecting the intention to lower tension and pursue the path of peace.

"India's decision is an expression of our desire to reduce tension," an external affairs ministry spokesperson said.

She was commenting on remarks by Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf in Abu Dhabi that India needed to do more to ease India-Pakistan tension.

"India," she said, "wanted to pursue the path of peace because to peace there is really no alternative. Pakistan government should recognise the import of these moves. These are substantial gestures."
