Warships return from forward patrolling in Arabian sea

"As per government decision, around 15 to 20 warships of the western and eastern naval fleet have arrived near Mumbai after patrolling different areas of the northern Arabian sea, while other ships are expected to return by weekend," navy spokesman Pranav Parashar said.

In its first move towards de-escalation at military level, the warships on June 11 were asked to move away from forward patrolling near the Pakistan shoreline. Besides Viraat, its battle group consisting of guided missile destroyers multi-purpose frigates like Mysore, Delhi, Mumbai, Russian acquired Kashin class destroyers, Rajput class Ranvir and Ranvijay, indigenous Godavari as well as missile corvettes, returned, he said.

Parashar said some of the warships that were back included the additional flotilla from the Eastern Naval Command, which had moved from the Bay of Bengal to bolster the western naval fleet.

Asked about the return of the eastern naval fleet warships to their bases, he said a decision on this would be taken later. The warships were tactically deployed in the northern Arabian sea to cover the vital sea lanes into India as well as to strike against the Pakistani Makran and Karachi coastline in case of a conflict.
