Al Qaeda presence in Kashmir valley possible: Army

A top army official on Friday said there is a possibility of Al Qaeda terrorists being present in the Kashmir valley.

"We are very alert and capable of dealing with them," General Officer Commanding 15th Corps Major General V G Patankar said at the raising day of the corps at Army Headquarters at Badabagh in Srinagar.

'We have been expecting them to surface in the Kashmir valley', he added.

"Though cross-border infiltration has declined in recent times, I don't think it has stopped altogether," he said.

Patankar said 'there has been no change in the situation' where cross-border shelling is concerned.

He said the situation in the valley was improving slowly as militant activities had come down.

Earlier, a wreath laying ceremony was held to commemorate the raising day of the 15 Corps.
