Heavy shelling in Uri sector of J&K

Heavy Pakistani firing and shelling continued on Saturday morning though the theatre of action has now shifted to Kamalkote in the Uri sector (Baramulla district) of Jammu and Kashmir.

Police sources in Srinagar said that Pakistani troops rained bullets and shells on Kamalkote near the Line of Control (LoC) on Saturday morning.

Three persons - two women and a teacher - were injured in the firing, they said adding that three houses in the village were damaged in the incident.

The Indian army is retaliating, they said.

"Heavy firing and shelling continues in the area," a police source said.

A report from Jammu said Pakistani troops fired mortars and also resorted to heavy firing in R S Pura, Ramgrah, Hiranagar and Banglar areas.

The firing stopped during the wee hours of Saturday morning.

Nearly, 16 houses were damaged in the mortar fire in various places along the border in Jammu sector on Friday night, police sources said.

Nearly 3000 residents living near the LoC have shifted to safer areas, they said.
