10 Pak soldiers, two Indians killed in shelling

At least 10 Pakistani soldiers were killed on Wednesday and several bunkers across the Line of Control and international border were damaged in retaliatory action by Indian forces who lost of two of their own men in shelling by Pakistani troops in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.

Pakistani troops targeted a number of areas in Poonch, Rajouri, Akhnoor, Palanwala, Kathua and Uri sectors with mortar shelling and heavy firing since Tuesday evening forcing Indian troops to hit back, the sources said.

In retaliatory action, three Pakistani posts Awain, Bela and Hira opposite Poonch sector and Naniyal and Naini Tekri in Rajouri sector were extensively damaged.

Damage was caused also to Pipal post and Marchola base opposite Akhnoor sector and Loni, Jhang and Peer Gharana opposite Palanwala sector during the counter action by Indian troops, the sources said.

In the skirmishes, at least 10 Pakistani soldiers were killed and several of them wounded in their posts and bunkers, they added.

On the Indian side, two persons, including a BSF sub-inspector, were killed and 18 injured in shelling and firing by Pakistani Rangers at Pansar-Manyari villages of Kathua district. Ten houses caught fire in the attack, the sources said.

Shelling and firing from across the border resulted in migration of 290 families from Manyari, Sadhey Chak and Dulma Chak in the district.

Ten people, including two army jawans, were injured in different border areas in Kathua, Jammu and Poonch districts since last evening, they said.

Several shells exploded in Uri town in Baramulla district, the police sources said.

They said Boniyar, Kamalkote, Nambla, Chakoti and Uran Bhawa were the worst-affected by the indiscriminate and unprovoked Pakistani shelling.
