US doing all to prevent Indo-Pak conflict: Chamberlin

K J M Varma in Islamabad

Outgoing US Ambassador to Pakistan Wendy Chamberlin on Thursday said the United States is doing everything to prevent a war between India and Pakistan, but the two countries must start talking to find a solution to resolve their differences.

"Both Islamabad and New Delhi know what they have to do and both know war is not in the interest of their people," she said.

She declined to answer questions on the Indian stance on cross-border terrorism saying: "I am going to dodge this question as we are engaged in a very sensitive dialogue with both the countries."

On efforts by Pakistan's mainstream political parties to restore democracy in the country, Chamberlin said the US is looking forward to the forthcoming elections in Pakistan.
