Govt may close down Pak High Commission: Omar

The Indian government may consider closing down Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, charging it with distributing money to Kashmiri separatist leaders and others, Minister of State for External Affairs Omar Abdullah said on Thursday night.

"It is the general belief that Pakistan High Commission is playing dirty role in India. Money is being brought here in diplomatic bags and distributed among Hurriyat leaders and others... in this situation we may consider closing down the mission here to deny them such an opportunity," Abdullah told television channel Aaj Tak.

Even after Pakistan High Commissioner Ashraf Jehangir Qazi was told to leave India, he invited Hurriyat leaders for a dinner meeting, Omar said.

"Why did he invite them?" he asked.

Stating that diplomatic and military efforts are necessary to tackle the situation in Kashmir, he said, "We should not think in terms of a war only but take concrete steps in this regard."

To a question, he said that Indus water treaty is an important issue between the two countries, which could be used against Pakistan.

"We are examining all these options," he added.
