India running out of patience, world should persuade Pakistan to stop cross-border terrorism: PM

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Saturday said India is running out of patience and it was now for world leaders to mount pressure on Pakistan to immediately stop cross-border terrorism.

"We have waited for too long and there is a limit to our restraint," he told reporters in Manali (Himachal Pradesh) after attending a cultural programme.

In an effort to sensitise international opinion, Vajpayee has written letters to US President George Bush, Russian President Vladimir Putin, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and French President Jacques Chirac outlining India's position.

"We are firm on our commitment to end terrorism and we will also continue our diplomatic efforts," Vajpayee said.

British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw is shortly visiting India to take stock of the situation.

Reacting to Pakistan's missile test, the prime minister said, "We don't take test firing of missiles by Pakistan seriously."

National Security Adviser Brajesh Mishra, who had gone to Kalpakkam (Tamil Nadu) to attend a meeting of the Atomic Energy Commission, will arrive in Manali on Sunday to brief the prime minister about the development.

Defence Minister George Fernandes is also expected in Manali on Sunday.
