No Vajpayee-Musharraf
meeting in Kazakhstan

India on Tuesday virtually ruled out any possibility of a meeting between Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pakistan President Parvez Musharraf in Kazakhstan.

The two leaders travel to Almaty, the capital of Kazakhstan, early in June to attend the Council of Cooperation on Confidence Measures in Asia summit.

"It [the summit] is some distance away both in time and geography.....personally I don't see such a possibility," External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh told reporters in New Delhi.

Ruling out any possibility of a third-party intervention in Indo-Pak talks, Singh said Russian President Vladimir Putin had merely said Vajpayee and Musharraf could meet in Kazakhstan.

He said Putin never intended to suggest that Russia could be a party to the talks.
