Indo-Pak nuclear war to kill 12 million: Report

Any full-scale nuclear exchange between India and Pakistan will cause 12 million immediate deaths and injure seven million people, a report said on Tuesday.

"Even a 'more limited' nuclear war would have cataclysmic results, overwhelming hospitals across Asia and requiring vast foreign assistance, particularly from the United States, to battle radioactive contamination," the New York Times said, quoting a Pentagon report.

The daily said additional deaths would be caused by urban firestorms triggered by the nuclear exchange, or deaths from long-term radiation. More could die of hunger and disease, it added.

Amid escalating tension between New Delhi and Islamabad, Pakistan test-fired the Abdali missile on Tuesday, Ghaznavi missile on Sunday and the Ghauri missile on Saturday.

India said it was not impressed by the "missile antics, particularly when all that is demonstrated is borrowed or imported ability".
