Shelling continues from across the border

Heavy exchange of shelling between Indian and Pakistani troops continued in several areas of Palanwala and Rajouri sectors on Tuesday.

Hundreds of residents have fled Drass and its adjoining villages to safer areas.

Ten families from Palanwala village and some from its adjoining villages of Kalwad and Khas have migrated to safer places, army sources said.

There was, however, no report of any loss of life or damage on the Indian side.

Shelling exchanges between the two sides also continued in Bhiwani, Laam and Jhanghar areas of Rajouri district.

Exchange of small arms fire took place at several places along the International Border in Jammu and Kathua district.

Meanwhile, a high-level meeting of provincial officers was convened by Minister of State for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Ajay Sadhotrahere on Monday evening to take stock of the situation.

Special teams have been constituted for areas from where migration is likely to take place.
