Cabinet to reopen Internet services
in J&K

The Union Cabinet met on Friday and decided to reopen Internet services in Jammu and Kashmir, Information and Technology Minister Pramod Mahajan said.

Briefing reporters on the meeting, the minister pointed out that the services had been stopped in the border state on December 28, 2001.

The government had decided to take decisive measures to stop cross-border terrorism from Pakistan following the December 13 attack on Parliament.

Mahajan said that the Cabinet also decided to resume IST and STD services in the Jaisalmer, Barmer and parts of the Jodhpur district in Rajasthan.

These services were also discontinued following the escalation of tensions with Pakistan.
