Thirty-one people were killed and 33 injured when a bus fell into the Ravi river in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday afternoon, official sources said.
The overcrowded Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation bus carrying an estimated 65 passengers, some of them traveling on the roof, was on its way from Bharmaur to Chamba when it plunged into the river near Gaira, 30 km from Chamba, they said.
Twenty-five bodies were extricated so far from the submerged bus, while six persons succumbed to injuries in Chamba hospital, the sources said.
Possibility of more bodies being trapped in the bus was remote, they said.
The condition of over a dozen of the 33 injured was stated to be critical.
