Praising Allahabad's role as the hub of political, cultural, literary and religious activities for centuries, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday announced a number of 'gifts' to the holy city, including a Law University and a Sahitya Bhawan.

On the occasion of the 116th foundation day celebrations of the state legislature, she said the Law University will be named after Dr B R Ambedkar and the Sahitya Bhawan after Dalit icon Chhatrapathi Shahuji Maharaj.

The present law faculty of Allahabad University would be upgraded into a separate Law University, Mayawati said addressing the function at the state public library in Allahabad.

The Sahitya Bhawan with a seating capacity of 900 would be built at a cost of Rs three crore, she said. The first installment of Rs 50 lakh would be released soon.
