BSNL INTERNET ACCESS IN BANGALORE

BSNL landline phone subscribers in Bangalore can now access the Internet without subscribing to any Internet Service Provider.

Subscribers will have to pay net access plus the normal telephone charges. Net access will cost 10 paise per minute. The telephone charges will be Rs 1.20 per 3 minutes during the day and Rs 7.20 per hour during the night (10.30 pm and 6.30 am IST).

To register for the service, the subscriber will first have to fill up a registration form available on https://netoneblor.bsnl.co.in which will give them the password.

Thereafter, the subscriber has to dial '172222'and log on using the password given.

Those without any access to the Internet can also call '172222' from the landline phone to access the registration form.

The service, currently available only in Bangalore, will be extended soon to other cities that have BSNL landline subscribers.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR COMMUNAL HARMONY

The Center for Education and Documentation and Insaaniyat, a coalition of young professionals have instituted scholarships to help interested students improve the quality of their project work on communalism and communal harmony.

The scholarship requires students to produce a write-up (of about 2,500 words) on an issue related to the communal question; the emphasis being on individual perspectives drawn from their experiences in the field and
supplementary reading.

This paper will be published for wider circulation.

The scholarship provides: An honorarium of Rs 3,000, expenses for basic surface travel and DA up to about Rs 1000 depending on the proposal submitted by the student, a year's complimentary membership of CED.

CED will also provide research and documentation facilities to the scholar for this project

The last date for submission of applications for the first batch is July 20, 2003. Subsequent batches will be announced later.

Those who wish to apply should furnish the following:

*A short write-up of the specific topic of study
*A plan of action for the intended work, with budget
*Any previous project/ paper(s) written on any issue of social
relevance
*A Curriculum Vitae
