The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday filed a fresh affidavit in the Supreme Court in the Ayodhya case.

The new affidavit amends the government's stand, taken in a petition challenging the filing of a supplementary chargesheet by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

In the supplementary charge sheet, conspiracy charges against top Bharatiya Janata Party leaders were dropped.

The UP government's affidavit says: "The act of those persons who have demolished Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992 was most barbaric, shameful, condemnable, unpardonable and was an act against the national interests and integrity of the nation."

The state government said it was for the court to decide whether CBI was right in filing a supplementary chargesheet in
the Ayodhya case.
