The Congress is organising a padayatra by member of Parliament and Congress president Sonia Gandhi's son Rahul Gandhi in Uttar Pradesh in a bid to revive party's fortunes in the politically-crucial state, party sources said.
The party decision comes soon after Rahul participated in the re-enactment of the historic Dandi March to commemorate 75 years since Mahatma Gandhi took the walk.
"Besides Rahul, other young MPs like Jitin Prasad, Navin Jindal and Milind Deora may also embark on this padayatra," the sources added.
The details of the march, called Gandhi Yatra, are still being worked out, the sources said, adding the Mahatma's favourite bhajans will be played along the route.
Realising the importance of the march in establishing a rapport with the people, the party has already launched a Kisan Yatra in the western district of Uttar Pradesh.
A similar rally with the slogan Nai prerna, Naya savera, Aaoo Rahulji ke saath chalen [new inspiration, new dawn, come let's walk with Rahul] will be taken out in the state from April 18 to 30.
This march is aimed at informing people about the 'wrong policies' being pursued by the Mulayam Singh Yadav government. The rally will be part of party's on-going agitation against the state government.
