Delhi police is planning to move court for permission to open an electronic locker, which had been installed at 7, Safdarjung Road, the residence of late Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan. The Mahajan family claims that apart from the late leader and his late secretary, Vivek Maitra, no-one knows its code.

"Yes, we are aware of the electronic locker and since the family says it does not know the code, we may move court to find out what its contents are, if we feel it would aid the Rahul Mahajan case," Manish Aggarwal, additional deputy commissioner of police, New Delhi district, told rediff.com on Tuesday.

Aggarwal added that they only learnt of Rahul's critical condition and Maitra's death at 5 am on June 2, nearly three hours after they had been taken to Apollo Hospital. "We got a call from a security personnel, when it was realised that Maitra's was an unnatural death, involving a medico-legal case," he said.

He refused to comment whether or not the case would stand the scrutiny of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act court.

"I am not saying what the court might do but I am confident that the case of 27A is strong enough to lead to conviction. We went to the Mahajan residence some days ago but that does not amount to conducting a raid because we took Rahul with us. The statements of the prosecution witnesses and the accused persons is good enough to prove the charges against them. All through, we ensured that the investigations were above board," Aggarwal explained.

The case against the Apollo Hospital for concealing evidence is still under investigation. "We are on the job and will file our findings in the court soon," he said.
