Scores of Congressmen, including three legislators, were arrested on Friday when they attempted to lay a siege to the residence of All India Anna Dravida Munnethra Kazhagam Jayalalithaa in protest against her alleged remarks against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal.

Police said the legislators -- Vishnuprasad, Arul Anbarasu and Vijaykumar -- and Congress workers attempted to picket the Poes Garden area, where Jayalalithaa's house was located, without prior permission.

Carrying Congress party flags, they also raised slogans against the AIADMK supremo for her "derogatory" remarks against Singh.

A large number of AIADMK cadre, led by former Minister D Jayakumar, had gathered in the area and resisted the entry of Congressmen resulting in a scuffle between the two groups.

An AIADMK cadre, Kuppan, suffered injuries in the melee.

Condemning Jayalalithaa's reported remarks, the Congressmen also attempted to burn her effigy at Thangasali in Chennai

Police said 148 Congress workers, including a woman, were arrested in different incidents.
