A Tiruchirappalli court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of the doctor couple arrested in the 'surgery case.'

Dr K Murugesan and his wife Gandhimathi, whose teenaged son reportedly performed a caesarean section at the family-run hospital at Manapparai near Tiruchirappalli, were arrested on June 25 and remanded to judicial custody.

Public Prosecutor R Edwin Jayakumar argued that the case was under investigation and it was in the initial stage and hence, bail should not be granted.

After hearing the arguments, Principal District Sessions Judge Thangakani rejected the bail plea.

Special police teams have been formed to trace their son Dhileepan Raj.

The Madurai Bench of the Madras high court had disposed of the anticipatory bail plea of the 16-year-old boy a few days back with a direction to police to produce him before the Juvenile Justice Board, which will decide the question of bail.

After the issue came to light, the police registered a case against all the three under IPC Sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 336 (act endangering life of others), 338 (causing grievious hurt by act endangering life) and 419 (cheating) among others.
