Vizag international airport project runs into rough weather
The proposed international airport at Visakhapatnam has run into rough weather with a senior Indian Airlines official raising strong objections against the site chosen for the same.
What is worse, the future of the existing airport, INS Dega seems uncertain in view of the National Airports Authority of India's decision to phase out all the airports which do not have an Airbus landing facility. Despite the Centre's assurance that the existing airport would be expanded, little is expected to be done considering the lack of initiative among the coordinating agencies.
Uncertainty plagues even the international airport project at Achutapuram. Though the site has been identified by a high-level committee, Indian Airlines Regional Manager (South), Captain S N Reddy feels the project would be disastrous. He said the huge towers and turbines of the proposed Hinduja super thermal plant near Vadacheepurupalli would render the operation of Airbuses dangerous.
