BJP to kick off poll campaign at BhubaneswarThe Bharatiya Janata Party will launch its election campaign at the party's national executive to be held at Bhubaneswar from December 19. The three-day session will finalise the various campaign committees and go to the people with the specific appeal, ''Give us a decisive victory.'' BJP general secretary M Venkaiah Naidu told the media today that the Congress has lost its credibility of being the only party to provide a stable government. Since 1996, he said, the BJP had emerged as the main political force with an ideological background. ''The BJP promises to provide good governance. The Congress is not known for this,'' he added. ''Today the Congress cannot claim to play the same card,'' he said. ''It was perceived by the people as the greatest destabiliser. There is inherent instability in the United Front as well. Both these parties have conceded that their main rival is the BJP. ''The Congress has said that the Jain Commission report is not the issue. If so, what is the main issue now?'' The BJP leader said his party would make the Jain Commission report the central point of discussion. Naidu said senior officials met at former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's home this morning to give final touches to the election campaign. UNI |
